APPLICATIONS FOR EARLY ACCESS IS OPEN!

Those who are chosen to be accepted will receive exclusive viewing of the comic's "pilot" and are encouraged to give feedback and criticism.

During humanity's earliest strides, an evolutionary anomaly took place.

The Deumedulla is an advanced species of humans distinguished by a single extra vertebrae with an abnormally emphasized spinous process located above the c1 vertebrae.Members of the superior species have larger cuspids and by virtue, carnivorous tendencies. Their muscles have a much higher fast-twitch fiber percentage than humans, though it can vary between individuals. Cannibalization of its own species is commonplace behavior, and their voracious appetite doesn't stop there. The first human meal of a Deumedulla is considered a coming of age milestone and is socially seen as a rejection of humanity.Deumedulla are born with supernatural abilities called "Testaments", and the ability to turn humans into "Umbra".Their lifespans are much longer than a human’s, averaging at a good few hundred years, some even reaching into thousands.
However, with there hardly being any Deumedulla to die of natural causes, the true limits of their lifespan are unknown.
The only sure method of eliminating one is through beheading.

As of now, the very existence of Deumedulla is a point of debate among seasoned conspiracy theorists, with most history regarding them being made difficult to find. They have been reduced to an urban legend in modern day.Deumedulla are a historically ostracized group, with superstitions and intolerance following them for millennia.
Some believe that Deumedulla were placed on earth by God itself to eradicate humanity.
The fear of their formidable strength and abilities has led to multiple mass culling events throughout history. The world sees them as violent by nature and consider it a liability to let one live.
Due to this, many deumedulla often live quiet or dangerous lives to avoid being outed. Some individuals even live completely unaware of the fact that they are one until later in life.
Many of these fears seem to stem from an individual that lived during biblical times called by many names.
The Blight, The Rot, The Curse Upon Earth,
but more commonly known as Ambrosius.

What lies beneath the skin?

Since ancient times, the earth and her splendors were shared between the human and the Deumedulla.
Their tolerance of each other now remains forever tainted after the blight of Ambrosius, a Deumedulla who lay waste upon half the world thousands upon thousands of years ago.
We follow our bright-eyed, young protagonist Luciano after his mentor and only friend goes missing under bizarre circumstances. He decides to take investigative matters into his own hands, and finds himself navigating the dangerous and mysterious world under Vespera, soon discovering there is far more to this than a missing persons case, and that he is in way over his head.

We began development for Over The Sun in earnest during the autumn of 2023 while living isolated in a Florida swamp. It's heavily inspired by films and books about mafia and vampires, while also taking inspiration from other pieces of media like The Phantom of The Opera, Les Miserables, and even The Bible.
Plenty of love and self indulgence is poured into our characters and writing.
Our quickest description for what's in store is a psychosexual tragedy in three parts.

The Agnusdei Family

One of many families that act out the demands of Vespera.
Has been having trouble with a neighboring family for the past few years.

he / him

Luciano

A strange yet polite young man with a deep interest in certain artifacts that seem to dissapear from the public eye.
The only child of two celebrated archeologists involves himself with a crime syndicate in order to uncover the truth of his mentor's untimely demise.
Luciano enjoys playing chess and fencing, though his true passion lies elsewhere.
He attends a prestigious school where he is at the top of his class.
Despite this, he has trouble connecting with his peers and hardly has any friends.
A bit sheltered and naive.

Santino Agnusdei

A Deumedulla and godfather of his own crime family that operates under Vespera.
An honest and righteous man.
His testament allows him to move at incredibly high speeds and carve through anything with his bare hands like a knife.
Despite his criminal lifestyle, Santino is a deeply kind and generous man with a habit of helping everyone that comes to him.
He has a soft spot for cats, despite his severe allergy.

she / her

Benita Agnusdei

Once an executioner of noble status, Benita is the wife & Umbra of Santino.
Her Testament allows her to exhale rain clouds with the drag of a cigarette. The rain that falls grants her invisibility.
Proud and dignified, she is the unofficial "second in command" of her famiglia. She indulges in wine quite often and hoards beauty products.
Benita is respected throughout the syndicate for her grand sense of justice, and appears as their executioner under certain circumstances.

Dante Agnusdei

Benita and Santino’s adoptive human child after their mother's untimely and tragic death.
Their testament manifests as a suit of armor made of solid light.
Seems cold and unapproachable due to their blunt nature and monotonous speech.
Dante constantly tries to prove to their parents that they are capable of surviving under the family business.
They find it hard to confide in others, and is interested in botany, especially flowers.

Massimo O'Cain

An impulsive and violent young man who eagerly chose life in the mafia.
A human Testament user with the ability to transplant any injury he sustains to another person through skin to skin contact.
He enjoys playing billiards and darts in his spare time.
A childhood friend of Romeo's. They both refuse to speak of their earlier years together. Massimo's explosive nature pairs well with her peacemaking tendencies. They are made blood brothers.

Romeo Spezia

A young woman who just wants to do good by others.
A human without a Testament, Romeo provides first aid to her famiglia with what she'd learned in her short time in medical school.
Enjoys fictional literature and films.
A childhood friend of Massimo's. All she's ever wanted is to save people, but ever since she formed that blood pact with Massimo in their early youth, Romeo finds herself in worse and worse situations. She just can't escape him.
Has a habit, or one might even say talent, for lying.

The Cerberus

The ever-revolving trinity of elite members tasked with acting on behalf of The Star and keeping order within the syndicate.

he / him ?

Faust

A doctor who's license is long expired.
Has been a head of The Cerberus since the syndicate's earliest years.
A medical genius that managed to avoid and further cure The Black Death after transplanting the vertebrae of a Deumedulla into his own spine.
Faust is the first and most likely the only human turned deumedulla in history, defying death, biology and God.
Not even the other heads of Cerberus know what kind of things he gets up to in his free time.

Sascha

A Deumedulla with the Testament to alter the state at which matter rests at. He most often uses it to rot flesh off bone.
He uses this to keep himself "Beautiful". He despises human and deumedulla alike, but loves dogs for their undying loyalty.
Once the child of a prestigious family, a ballerina, and vicomte, Sascha spends his days gambling and subjecting Lupo to his sadistic tendencies.

he / him

he / him

Lupo

A miserable human weapon who just can't seem to die.
He wields a Testament with the ability to form solids with his own blood. Seldom ever sober, either from his own alcoholic vices or the tranquilizers provided by Faust. Maybe for his own good.
Lupo is the first human ever placed into The Cerberus and has a ridiculous pain tolerance.
Lives to follow orders like a machine.
The youngest of the three, despite appearances. Tends to gravitate towards Sascha.

The "Leather" Family

The neighboring family thats been harassing the Agnusdei family for the past few years.
(Name is a work in progress. Certain members are not included for spoilers sake.)

she / her

Vittoria

A cocky and violent woman that has been taking over territories rightfully owned by the Agnusdei Family.
She and her slave Pane spend their time racketeering and indulging in the spoils of their hijacked territories.
For the past year, Vittoria has been taking more initiative in the family than their own capo, who has been "dealing with more pressing matters".

Pane

The silent and brooding slave of Vittoria.
The zipper across his mouth isn't just for show, his jaws are the subject of his testament, capable of biting through bone and steel.
Pane is the much needed muscle to back up a team of such big-talk individuals. Pane manages to keep his cool unlike the others, as well.

he / him

she / her

Genevieve

The youngest member of the family. She looks up to Vittoria and confides in both her and Pane.
Deeply impressionable and immature, Genevieve has quite the way with technology.
She keeps tabs on just about anyone she makes eye contact with.
The most important things to her are Vittoria, her computer, and her bike.

Closer to God?

Every member of the Deumedulla species are born with psychic abilities called Testaments. These supernatural talents have a vast range of ability, and are scaled by how capable the Testament is of devastating mankind. There are cases of testaments overpowering their users and turning them into entities that are both violent and apathetic.Testaments could be as little as tougher skin to the ability to warp reality as it stands.Humans can be given Testaments via oral consumption of Deumedulla blood.Vespera takes a theatrical spin on this by officiating new members with communion. A wafer, and a glass of wine tainted with blood.

A show of loyalty or an escape from death?

Deumedulla engage in behavior considered intimate with humans, in which the Deumedulla in question consumes a dangerous portion of their human of choice and replaces their blood with its own, resulting in the human adapting features similar to the other species. Their lifespan, however, only gains a slight extension, pushing the human's average 75 years to at least a few hundred years. This ritual has a recovery time varying from weeks to decades for the lost flesh and bone to return.Traditionally, this ceremony would mean the Deumedulla and their Umbra spend their lives together.
However, there are many cases of the two separating and having no sentimental threads tying them together. Almost like a business deal.
Some humans force Deumedulla to turn them into Umbras for longer lives and grander strength, and Deumedulla take a crueller approach in birthing Umbras with the intent to make a human live longer under tragic circumstance, to let them suffer as long as possible.

An Eternal Night

No one knows when or why the syndicate was established.
Those who involve themselves with it, intentionally or not, are forced to either choose between dying with their knowledge of it's existence or pledging their never-ending loyalty to it.
It has left its mark in every corner of the nation it resides in, intertwining itself from groups as small as local businesses to larger scale powers from hospitals to governments.
It serves as a means of both protection and mass surveillance for its people. While a majority of its members are largely Deumedulla and Umbra, humans are also welcomed under the night sky.
Those who are a part of the group are referred to as the "children of the endless night"

We are not yet ready to be seen,
